Physician, researcher
& educator

Originally from Fullerton, California, Dr. Lean earned her BA with Honors and Highest Distinction from UC San Diego before attending medical school at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. During her anesthesiology residency at the University of Washington in Seattle, she was selected as a Bonica Scholar, a prestigious research-track distinction. She went on to complete her pain management fellowship at UCLA.

Today, Dr. Lean serves as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology in the Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care at the UC Irvine School of Medicine. She treats patients, teaches residents, and conducts research that has produced multiple peer-reviewed publications. She also teaches cancer pain management and ethics as faculty for the national Dannemiller Pain Review Course.

Beyond her UCI practice, Dr. Lean is available for conference speaking, medical device and pharmaceutical consulting, and physician proctoring across Southern California.

Outside of the clinic, you'll find Alexa on a yoga mat (she's a certified instructor), exploring a new city, or trying her hand at whatever catches her curiosity, from cooking to picking up a new sport. She's happiest when she's learning something that challenges her thinking. And at the end of the day, her favorite company is her dog, Jojo.
